With its pleasant year-round climate, Nerja is one of the most popular destinations along Spain’s sunny coast for many tourists. We give you an overview of the weather in Nerja month by month, with information on temperatures, sunshine hours, our own experiences, and some advice on what to wear. Nerja also has seasons, with the weather shifting from warm summer nights to cooler "winter days."

Nerja Weather Year-Round

Nerja is known for its subtropical Mediterranean climate, meaning mild winters and warm summers. Temperatures generally stay within a comfortable range. Nerja's weather is wonderful all year.

Nerja Weather in Summer: June, July, and August

Summer in Nerja is hot and sunny, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C. The beaches are bustling with life, and you can cool off from the sun in the waters of the Mediterranean. If you enjoy plenty of hustle and bustle well into the early hours, then the summer peak season is for you. On the hottest days, it's nice to cool off by the pool or beach. A tip for the beach is that it tends to be less crowded and almost at its warmest, without the sun being at its highest, around 6 PM.

Nerja Weather in Autumn: September, October, and November

Autumn is a fantastic time to visit Nerja. Temperatures drop slightly, but it's still warm enough for beach visits, with temperatures around 20-28°C. With fewer visitors and less lively streets, autumn is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Nights are slightly cooler than in summer, which is usually appreciated when it's time to sleep.

Nerja Weather in Winter: December, January, and February

Winters in Nerja are mild, with temperatures that many days can feel like a Swedish summer day. You can still enjoy many sunny days, although evenings can be chilly. In winter, you can take the opportunity to visit all the beautiful places and go hiking in the fantastic nature. There aren't usually many tourists, and the temperatures are absolutely perfect for enjoying nature and outdoor activities.

Nerja Weather in Spring: March, April, and May

Spring is lovely in Nerja. Nature is in bloom, and temperatures steadily rise from 15°C up to 25°C. The water and pools are usually cold, so it might be a good idea to look for accommodation with a heated pool if you plan a holiday in Nerja during that time. It's not peak season, so it's not as tourist-dense, if that's something you prefer.

Nerja Weather Table – Month by Month

Please note that this is a rather pessimistic temperature table. Since it's an average, you'll find temperatures well above, for example, the 14 degrees you see in January. Moreover, the sun in Spain is warm all year round, so it's beach weather most days, all year round, in our experience.

Experienced Weather in Nerja

Since we feel that the table above doesn't quite describe our experience of temperatures in Nerja, we're complementing it with an experiential temperature table.

During winter, it's good to prepare for it being cold indoors (!), so slippers are a good idea, as is a warm sweater.

In the evenings during winter (and sometimes in spring), it can be nice to bring a jacket. It's good to keep in mind that even if evening and night temperatures aren't very low, it can still feel colder due to the humid air.

The table shows how the weather can be midday in Nerja month by month. Purely from experience.

When is the best time to travel to Nerja?

If you want to enjoy sunbathing and swimming, the period from June to September is best. For those who want to explore the city's cultural attractions or hike in the surrounding mountains, spring and autumn are ideal. Winter offers mild temperatures and a calm atmosphere, and sometimes this time is the very best because the contrast with the weather at home (we live in Stockholm) is greatest. You take off from, for example, Arlanda in a cold, dark, and gray landscape, and when you land at Málaga Airport, the sun warms you and shines so brightly it almost hurts your eyes :)
