For those who want to start summer early

Spring in Nerja is like a fake start to summer. Easter week offered nice weather and it looks like it will be over 20 degrees during the day with bright sunshine. The best thing about visiting Nerja after Easter, in my opinion, is the pleasant temperatures, sunny days, a relaxed atmosphere and significantly fewer tourists than during high season. It is lovely green, flowery and summery. Exotic fruits can be enjoyed all year round, here you can read about the fruit seasons .

Weather in Nerja in spring

During April and May, Nerja offers daytime temperatures between 21–24 °C and pleasantly cool evenings around 14–16 °C. It is perfect for long beach walks, swimming in the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea and excursions to places around Nerja. If you want to know more about the weather in Nerja month by month, it is collected here .

Activities in Nerja during the spring

You can do pretty much everything in spring that Nerja offers in summer, but with fewer crowds and temperatures that are more comfortable than during the hottest summer months.

  • Beach life : Enjoy the sun and swimming at Playa de Burriana, where you can also try water sports such as kayaking and paddleboarding.

  • Hiking : Explore the scenic trails in the mountains around Nerja, which offer everything from short walks to full-day hikes.

  • Restaurant visit : Tapas, Spanish food or international cuisine

  • Culture and History : Visit the impressive Nerja Caves (Cueva de Nerja) and stroll along the Balcón de Europa for stunning views of the coast.

Restaurants recommended by foodies

According to recent recommendations from food enthusiasts in Nerja, the following restaurants are worth a visit:

  • Ayo : Located on Burriana beach, famous for its paella cooked over an open fire.

  • Copa Vino : A wine bar with a carefully selected range of wines and a menu of delicious tapas.

  • Taste of India : Offers authentic Indian cuisine with rich flavors and excellent service.

Excursions from Nerja

Nerja is an excellent starting point for exploring other parts of Andalusia. Frigiliana is the nearest village that you should not miss if you visit Nerja. The view from there is absolutely magical and you can enjoy a walk among the whitewashed houses and cobbled streets up to the top of the village. Almunecar is a coastal town about 20-30 minutes by car from Nerja, a tip is to look up what you want to visit before you go there so you know where you are going. The city has both charming and less charming parts :). For those who want to go a little further, a trip to Gibraltar, an English territory about 2.5 hours by car from Nerja, is recommended.

  • Frigiliana : A charming whitewashed village just 15 minutes away, perfect for a half-day trip.

  • Almuñécar : A coastal town with historical attractions such as a Moorish castle and Roman aqueducts.

  • Gibraltar : A day trip to this British enclave offers a unique mix of cultures and spectacular views from the Rock of Gibraltar.

Towards the coast of light

If you are a beach lover and want to experience something beyond the beaches on the Coast of Sun, we can recommend a trip to the Coast of Light. Villages that we think are worth a visit are:

  • Tarifa : It takes about 2.5 hours by car. A kite surfing town where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. A bit of a hippie feel. Very relaxed and cozy town.

  • Zahara de los atunes : It takes about 3 hours by car. Here you get a picturesque Spanish town with incredibly beautiful white beaches.

  • Barbate, Conil de la Frontera : Just over 3 hours by car. Wonderful beaches!

Below you can see a film from these beaches. It is a little windier on the Coast of Light than on the Coast of Sun :)

  • Cadiz: It takes about 3 hours by car. A must-see if you are on this part of the coast . A typical Spanish city, the oldest in Europe, right by the sea. Wonderful white beaches. Typical Spanish food. Charming alleys and a lot of culture and history. There is something for everyone! The pictures below don't really do the city justice. There are huge sandy beaches along the entire coastal city, history, culture, museums, restaurants and much much much more.

Part of the wall in Cadiz. One of the Bond movies had a scene from here, but I don't remember which one it was :)

Conclusion - spring in Nerja and the Spanish coast gets five stars out of five :D!
